program design and structure
Unique to Arc is that many of our programs are run in collaboration
with local educational and service organizations. This allows
for a high level of emergency preparedness, as on-the-ground
coordinators can have the greatest understanding of local
emergency procedures.
staff experience and training
Arc staff are multi-talented, qualified professionals with
extensive experience and training in international travel,
safety and emergency procedures. All staff are first aid
and CPR certified, and many hold advanced training certificates
such as Wilderness First Responder or EMT.
staff supervision
Most programs maintain a 5:1 student to staff ratio. Our staff
travel with the students full-time and are available 24 hours
a day. Most excursions are done as a whole group. Student
exploration in small groups, without a staff member, is allowed
only in approved locations.
emergency phones
All programs are equipped with an emergency cell or satellite
phone, and staff keep in regular contact with the Arc Florida
office.
safety orientations
From our pre-trip information packets to our safety briefings
to work project orientations and tool training, students
have the opportunity to learn how one can travel and volunteer
safe abroad.
