an adventure. an opportunity. a chance to give back. arc china promises to be an educational and cultural feast for the soul. from the modern metropolis of beijing to the historical treasures of xi'an to the impoverished orphanages of taiyuan, china thrills its visitors with the sights and sounds of a modern world contrasted against the remains of ancient civilizations.

China has made huge strides in economic development over the last thirty years and has quickly established itself as one of the top travel destinations in the world, leaving many to feel that the Chinese language has become one of a few "must know" languages of the future.

Our program is organized and run by Brent Johnson, a long time ActionQuest staff member. Since 1995, Brent and his wife, Serena, have been working with orphans throughout China, and organizing educational programs for youth, both domestic and foreign. They are the founders of China Little Flower and are responsible for running all of the foundation's programs. Their mission is three-fold: care for orphans in their Beijing Baby and Children's Homes; provide necessary medical procedures through their Medical Programs and facilitate the adoption process for American families.

During the China program, Arc students work primarily toward developing their Mandarin Language skills both in a language school in Beijing but also in practice, as students have the opportunity to work alongside our Lifeworks service program team working with physically disabled children in privately funded orphanages. While Arc has no religious affiliation, we work alongside Brent and his team as they assist both state-run and Catholic children’s care facilities such as those in Taiyuan and Liming.

Between language classes and projects, we’ll visit the Great Wall and, yes, you’ll get to see the Terra Cotta Warriors. We will walk through the famous Tiananmen Square and see the Imperial Palace and Forbidden City during our stay in Beijing. Arc cultural excursions provide the perfect opportunity to put your language skills into practice, as we share stories, cultures, play games and lead activities with the ever smiling and curious people of China!
